TV's popular blockbuster hit,
THE UNIT on CBS may be
facing cancellation. Rumors are
all over the internet to this
effect, and part of what is fuelling
them is the complete silence and
lack of advertising on the show
in the wake of the end of the
Writer's strike. All other shows
are touting new episodes, but
The Unit has almost a blank web
page at the network's schedule
site.

Vet viewers who are show fans of
the fictional military romp where
troops are first living as
semi-civilians on a full blown
military base and making a life
for themselves there, and are
then called into hostile action
and transported weekly to whatever
mission zone the episode is based
upon.

I have compiled a few fan LINKS
below, first to CBS's web page
itself as they are still holding
out Back Episodes to view on
your computer if you wish. See the
right margin.

I also chased down some biography
LINKS for both star actor Dennis
Haysbert and his fictional wife
Regina Taylor, who are both the
real reason why this show even
works at all, even in a fictional
genre. The 2 characters in the show
are so convincing, so compelling,
and so believable that it makes
the rest of us care about them
and tune in every week to see
what's gonna happen next, either
on duty or to their family.

Regina Taylor is outstanding in
her part and casting could not
have hit a better target in picking
her for the role. Haysbert may
still continue to be The Allstate
Man, but for decades he has long
been tied to a military persona
character that he always pulls off
with believability and pulls in
fans every time when he does.

The Unit has had an uphill battle
to survive the ratings since it
started with it's odd, however
historic mix of military action
adventure merged with daytime
soaps drama as the military wives,
for once, are put front and center
with equal points of interest
in the show, as each storyline
moves back and forth between
the great duty scenes and the
struggle for military families
to have a life in spite of it
all, even while living in the
throws and sparse conditions of
military housing.

All of these actors are civilians
and so are the writers, so to
pull this whole thing off with
finesse and believability truly
has to be a daunting job for
all of them to make this show
really work in a way that even
Veterans will watch. Hats off
to all of them for even taking
this on.

Scott Foley makes a wonderful
supporting actor to the rest of
the cast, and the writers do
their very best to emphasize key
points about the strains of duty
and all that it holds.

As the adult children in the
story come into their own military
interests, the show really does
introduce to the civilian public
how the chain of enlistees all
too often happen, and what it
causes internally to their families
when it does. Yes it's a multi-generational
military, Get Over It !!

So before the show leaves the air
unexpectedly or suddenly before
the word gets out, here are the LINKS
collection below for everyone to
indulge in as we brace ourselves
for an unexpected goodbye to
a really good military show in
spite of all the fiction. View
the back-episodes as soon as
you can as CBS will remove their
web page pronto if a cancellation
is officially announced.

It's reasonable to assume that
the Writers strike itself may
have yielded unexpected firings
and the entire direction of
the show possibly has been lost
forever because of production changes.
Either way, don't wait to plug
in before it all disappears if
you are a fan.
