| This Forum will be updated periodically over the next few days and weeks ahead so just return here as new Pix are loaded etc. for viewing. The last survivors of the 14th Army WAC Band are keeping the spirit alive at Fort McClellan, I am happy to report. They are looking fabulous, and right full of jokes and spirit. I didn't have much time to pursue the base generally, but what I got I'll share with you here. Feel free to make your own posts if you have something to show everybody. The former WAC Chapel has now been memorialized forever and that too is looking fabulous. I haven't been back there since my own graduation ceremonies from boot camp, except a couple of Gigs we played before I left for Signal Corps. Book deals and a video and some CD's are in the works for this Army unit, so stay tuned for more breaking news on that. To facilitate that, we underwent a full photo shoot of ourselves on the night of our public concert and what I bring to you here are shots that we all took of ourselves while the main Army photographer was setting up. We were photographed 2 different ways: by instrument section, and then by decade of years we were assigned to the 14th Band as in 1950's, 1960's, and the 1970's group. So we are formed up differently on the steps of the WAC Chapel including yours truly. The 14th will attempt to pull off another Reunion in 2 years, i.e. 2010, and we are already saving our money to make that happen. I say to every WAC out there, this journey back to McClellan is worth the Ouch expense that you will have to raise to go there. To hear the band again, and to sit where you yourselves graduated with your very first stripes on your sleeves --- there is nothing like it for sure. To see these wonderful players again up close and to let them know how important they are, there is nothing like it. They play their original marching drum cadence that we all tromped on the fields to. and just to hear that again live is such a rush of memories that it's almost like doing it all over again. To be on the staging fields, to walk up and down the row of Hq buildings, it's a spiritual journey that really feeds the soul. If you can come to the next Reunion of the 14th, then try to pull it together financially because it is the very last of anything at all tied to the WACS that is happening on the actual grounds of Fort McClellan. I am so glad I could bring to you these photos to bring you into the inside view of how our Reunion all went, first with a private buffet dinner with one of our elders of the band (this was a second home to us back in the day and a second rehearsal place for us in her back yard), up to the public concert they played which was video and audio taped by the Army National Guard and will soon be publicly available.
