Female Sailor Found Dead In Barracks At Fort Myer

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The Navy is investigating the death of a sailor after the body was found this morning, Navy officials said Monday.

The body was found in the sailor's Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall room after not showing up for work Sunday night, according to Navy Commander Cappy Surette.

The sailor is not being publicly identified pending notification of next of kin, according to Surette. A Navy source tells CNN the sailor's gender was female.

The death is being investigated by the Naval Criminal Investigation Service. Surette would not say if the death was considered suspicious.

"The investigation is just beginning and details are just emerging," Surette said.

Henderson Hall in Arlington, Virginia is a Marine and Army base near the Pentagon. It is a secure base, Surette said, meaning it's collection of office buildings and barracks are not open to the public.
