There is a lot going on in
our Veterans community which
is NOT done right, but one
of the things that IS done
right and is a stellar showing
of what we can all truly
rally behind and be a part
of without guilt that we
are also selling out our
rights to justice and recognition
in our constituency is the
great national Womens Memorial
at Arlington, Virginia.

For those of us lucky women
Veterans who were there for
the big 2-day kickoff party
back in the 90's which
included a star-studded
celebration of Kenny Rogers,
Patti Austin, and General
Colin Powell to name a few,
it was a day to remember
with all of us and the first
time that we all came together
as women nationally and
across branches of service,
to get a real life look
at who we are and how far
we have come as girls in
the military.

Not bad, ladies --- You
Go, girl !!

Look around at the website
and see if they are still
selling the Videos of the
Grand Opening Ceremonies,
because you will be dazzled
and maybe even shed a tear
or two of delight when you
see the nighttime candlelight
march over the bridge that
we did. It was REALLY something!

For the newer troops in
the Iraq war and hereafter,
let me get you acquainted
now with The Womens Memorial
because it is there that
you can go and commemorate
your fallen women comrades for
all of your remaining lifetimes
as members of our Veterans
community. Go there, be a
part of it, and heal. The
rest of us will join you.

The Womens Memorial is a
museum, a meeting place,
an art show, a living memorial
to all those members both
still alive or passed on,
and a place to visit.

It's the brainchild of
Air Force Retired General
Wilma Vaught, who is getting
on in her years. The
Memorial always needs money
and donations.

A lot of are stuck in poverty,
courtesy of the VA agency. But for
those who manage to grab the
brass ring and get quickly rated,
please pass a few dollars along to
the Womens Memorial.

Those of us who are still
scraping to get by just
to purchase a pair of
$7.00 White Stag pants on
sale at WalMart, you can
still send letters of
appreciation and thanks
to General Vaught. In other
words, you can send her
a piece of your heart and
she will like it just the
same.

TO: president@womensmemorial.org

Dear General Vaught,

I haven't had a chance up until now
to tell you how much I care about the
Womens Memorial and to express my
thanks and appreciation for all that
you've done to advance its
establishment. I wish I had the
kind of income which would allow me
to make financial donation at this
time. But when that happens, I will
do what I can to send it your way.

But for today, I wanted you to
know how much I appreciate
the dedication of the Memorial
to us, and that I send to you
my fondest and sincere thanks to
you and your staff for making
it possible for me to have
such a wonderful public place.

Signed, --- Your Name

The Memorial has a gift shop,
and if you are accustomed
to saving your pennies one
month to the next, you can
purchase T-Shirts and Sweatshirts
to wear on Veterans or Memorial
Days as a holiday shirt, since
you would probably buy one
anyway even if the VA holds
you on disability welfare.

But an email or letter doesn't
cost much, and that much
you can do for General Vaught.

We have to take time out to thank
those who are getting older
and have really, really, really
done something for us that
will last for all time.
