Here's the text of a letter I wrote to Cong. Delahunt a couple of years ago:

May 11, 2002
Dear Congressman Delahunt:

This is a note of commendation and appreciation for the help your assistant Anestis Kalaitzidis has provided in my appeal for VA benefits. I recently received a decision in my favor from the Board of Veterans' Appeals.
Since I first contacted your office in September, 2000, Mr. Kalaitzidis has consistently demonstrated concern, dedication, persistence, and infinite patience in advocating on my behalf. As I wrote to Anestis on March 27th, I feel certain that my appeal would not have progressed as quickly as it has, were it not for his intervention.
Over the years, I have personally dealt with numerous government agencies and found the VA to be the least responsive, slowest and least efficient among them, so that many times it would seem that efforts to get them to act is like beating the proverbial dead horse. I should think that dealing with the VA on a consistent basis and maintaining an open and respectful relationship would require a tremendous amount of tact and diplomacy, and I have the utmost admiration for someone with that ability. In conversations with myself Anestis has demonstrated these qualities, along with compassion and understanding when I would express my exasperation and frustration. Indeed, he appears to have great concern and empathy for all the veterans he has assisted in our difficult predicament.
As I have said to Anestis, it seems a shame that people who put their lives on the line when they enlist should have such a difficult time when applying to the VA for benefits to which they are legally and morally entitled. It's also a shame that someone with the rare sense of dedication that Anestis has shown should have to expend so much effort and energy to obtain those benefits, which the law actually states should be liberally applied -- particularly when there are so many others in need. . . .

Sincerely,
Ronald Fradkin
