As we approach the end of our
advocacy in Washington on the Fort McClellan contamination matter, some of us will continue to tie up the loose ends in Washington on the subject of Patient Class Reform. For those who have not been following this saga very well, what the federal system did to those of us from Fort McClellan was shameful and disgusting. They first refused to give us Patient Class recognition for Fort McClellan service, even though the entire surrounding town of civilians received full recognition from the Center For Disease Control. Then they turned around and played this stupid mind-game of requiring US the medical patients, to go out and find or locate all the other Fort McClellan Veterans around the country who were also sick, then screen them,[ i.e. ask them general questions about their health] and then submit their names and contact information to the VA "outreach" office, so they could then us this first group as a verification to then go out and do the rest of the nationwide notification to all the rest of the hundreds upon thousands of other Fort McClellan Veterans. Patient Class recognition absolutely does need to change at the VA. I have frankly never heard of anything so incredibily dumb in my entire life! Hundreds of high paying income jobs in this VA, and not one fool in the system is charged with the duty to do Patient Class recognition. Give me a Freakin BREAK !! The VA absolutely does need to open a separate office, the Office Of Patient Class Review. That office would be open upon a simple application by all Veterans who believe themselves to be in a common incident class whether it's combat or accident. Also, it would have a tracking system tied to the VA Comp Rating System computers to find and identify Veteran patients who are a part of a common incident class. This VA system has Piddled and Diddled Veterans into early graves, from sea to shining sea, so it's time now to throw the old out, and usher in the new. The old ideas of "legislating" solutions to Veteran medical patients now has to be the focus of protest and opposition by all Veterans and Advocates. Tell them we won't take it anymore. No more baloney with "health registery" laws and all that: they are a HOSPITAL SYSTEM and they need to start acting like one. And if patient assistance and patient location and identification is not a part of that system, then WHAT THE HELL IS ??? In the course of your Advocacy into Washington now, by all means include it in your Mad As Hell speech, that Patient Recognition in the VA system is an all out disaster and we are not going to take it anymore. We want REFORM now !!! Sue Frasier, VEV 1970 Army Signal Corps national activist/protester staff Blogger, VFJ |
