I will be in Washington working
for 2 full days this up and coming week. The legislative language is done for the Fort McClellan Bill on the HOUSE side, but the session is in recess until September. I'll be going around to meet with key staffers in locating a sponsor for the submission. A letter has been sent on our behalf by a supporting Alabama congressional to the VA Secretary's Liason who I met with back in January, however, a bit of a story has developed in that matter. The Liason has apparently been assigned for a temporary period spanning a few months, to another location at VA's hand. So it has become a confused story where they are unable to verify if the Liason actually received the letter. They were working on a backup FAX when I talked to them on Wednesday. This is the second time at the VA we have been forced to endure such delays. Another key contact at the VA who we were working one on one with, named Dave Abbott, was inadvertently assigned to Germany for 6 months without telling anybody, and those of us who had pending issues to work in that office were expected to sit around until after he got back. They do NOT hand off to co-workers at all, and it's the dumbest thing I have ever seen to date at the agency. I don't know of any other place that does such a thing knowing full well that medical patients are waiting for a course of action. The Senate has been an endless merry-go-round of dysfunctionals and idiots who either don't return phone calls or communicate on the progress of an issue developing for legislation. The man I met with in July up and quit his job to return to school about 3 days after I was there, never indicating to me that this was in the works. So it's back to Square 1 to find somebody with a brain who can actually work an issue at the Senate side. The key problem here is the House has many Subcommittees and each of those have their own staff. At the Senate, there is only 1 committee staff and no subcommittees so the environment is harder to work in by reason of the very way they are set up. I have several destinations that I will be stopping at to compile or drop off information so I'll know more from all of that when I get back.
