The last of the surviving members of
the 14th Army WAC Band from Fort
McClellan, Alabama will be staging
a reunion concert inside of the
former WAC Chapel at Fort McClellan
on Friday, October 10th, 2008 at
7pm.

Concert-goers will only need a valid
drivers license or I.D. to get through
the base gate and then head on into
the WAC Chapel parking lot. As you
know this is a confined space so
we will have to keep the numbers
of the general audience limited.

Married couples from the base, former
WAC's as well as former Band members
are invited as well as the Chemical
Corps, Marine Unit, and former Military
Police School people who feel connected
to the band.

If you have a special connection or
rememberance of the band, especially
during their many gigs at the NCO
and Officers clubs on the base,
and would like to thank them or say
goodbye, then here is your chance
to do so. The Band was decommissioned
with the Womens Army Corps back in
1977 and many of them are Retirees.
They gave their all to the military
and they served as the national
face for all of us women who
dared to be different back in our
day.

There are already a lot of us who
are former members of the company
who are attending and we will have
first access into the Chapel building
itself so keep that in mind in your
planning.

The WAC Band members will be dressed
in white shirts and black bottoms so
you will be able to spot them
easily if you arrive early to stage
photographs. This is a friendly group
and they love the attention they get
from other WAC's who remember the
many days in the heat on the main
marching field. There are no ticket
sales or requirements for this event.
If the spirit moves you, just come.

Just book your hotels in nearby
Anniston, and then arrive for the
concert just like any other travel
event that you normally attend.
I will be there too.

For those concerned about the nearby
PCB contamination from the other
side of town, you can simply pack
face masks which are available at
any drugstore, and wear one if you
are driving or taxi-ing across town
to your hotel. The base itself has
been cleaned up for sometime now
and is deemed safe by the EPA.

You should book the trip well in
advance because the Anniston hotel
market is quite small and not what
it once was back in the day.

The interim lineup of concert songs
to be played by the Band includes:
America The Beautiful, Gloria March,
Bandology, their old time signature
song DixieLand Jamboree, This Is My
Country, WAC Is A Soldier Too, Col.
Bogey, and Army Goes Rolling Along.
The conductors have also stated more
were in the works but they haven't
decided on the full list just yet.

I, for one, would hope they would
play Pallas Athena.

So it's a Reunion concert everybody,
one more for old times sake, so let's
see if ya wanna come.
