I wanted to ask veterans if they have had this happen to them.
you go to the DAV and they become your "rep" they file paperwork on your behalf, and you may even get a teleconference with a judge at the VBA, and everything seems to be going good.
The DAV rep ask you to call him/her once a month to check and see how your claim is going, so you do; then one day you call and get this mysterious voice on the other end that tells you, "your rep has been transferred and or does not work here anymore."
Why, you ask? The response is, "we are not at liberty to say." then your claim comes back denied; you then inquire from the DAV as to why your claim was denied, and they give you some kind of run-a-round, like theres not enough evidence to support your claim. However, the DAV VSO that you were working with said, "you have a good claim, and you should be able to get service connection."
The case that I described above really happened; not just once, but 7 times. 7 times; 7 DAV reps were "reassigned" while working on this case. This is the most weirdest and most suspicious thing that I have ever seen.
Here in Texas every thing is weird; especialy in Waco Texas where the DAV, the VFW, and the American Legion, or all in the same building as the regional office; right next door so to speak, if the RO sneezes the VSO's are right there to hand them a napkin.I also find this strange; it's like sleeping with the enemy.
This is the second time that I have dealt with the DVA, and neither time has been a good experience, so I am inclined to beleive that DAV is corrupt; since I have not worked with the other two, I will reserve my opinion on them on them, but I beleive that the veterans service organizations should be seperate from the RO.
I would love to hear comments from everybody on this topic; even you Sue.
The DAV at the McGuire VAMC in Richmond, Virginia will only assist minority veterans with claims and veterans seeking their help due to abuse, reversed race discrimination, retaliation, and being refused medical care are treated like second class citizens. They are a big part of the racist agenda that is taking away the earned rights of white veterans, and yes, they're biggest concern is collecting dues and misleading the public.
Macat, you are so correct. The situation is the same in St louis, The VA and DAV are in the same building. Is that not sleeping with the enemy? Naturally they will say that it increases the ability to communicate speediantly with the VA. I am so fustrated with the VA but that doesn't compare to the DAV that supposedly are their to represent the Vet. As usual, those who wear the gold make the rules!
I'm a life time member of the DAV, but I'm not proud of that and there is no way to get my money back. I no longer go to meetings, and the reason is that I can not see any vet's in our area being helped. I'm a past sr. vice commander and we had fund raisers and the money we collected went to needy vet's, now all that the officers want is for every one else to raise the money so they (the officers) can go to out of state meetings (party) at the chapters expence. As far as the DAV helping with claims, to many horror stories with them.
I had learned long ago that the DAV is only interested in veteraqns membership dues and donations from the public. The DAV promotes mistreatment of vets at VA Hospitals such as at the McGuire VAMC in Richmond. I hear that DAV Thrift Stores only gives 20% of their earnings to veterans causes and that's probably for their own cause. They need to be exposed!
