The Disabled American Veterans have been my Power of Attorney three times in the past 37 years as I fought the VA. They have never helped me in any way. The DAV would just tell me that the VA will not respond to them, so there was nothing that the DAV could do. I could NEVER get an DAV officer to even return a phone call.
The DAV was my Power of Attorney in Sacto., Calif. they just gave up. I moved to Oregon to fight the VA and the DAV was my Power of Attorney there also. They did nothing.Congressman De Fassio's office on Veteran's affairs on the Presidents committee advised me to move to an other district to fight the VA. I moved to Hawaii and asked the DAV to help me. They became my power of Attorney here also. They did nothing. Would not return my calls.Deadlines came and went as the DAV was asleep at the wheel. I am still looking for help as the DAV revoked my power of attorney again.

The DAV courts you for money. They promise if you buy a lifetime membership you'll get "special" treatment and your claims will get processed expeditiously. Bullspit. They dropped the ball on my claim. My NSO refused to accept key paperwork that needed to be put into my c-file. Because of that, I had to submit it directly to the VARO myself. When they were deciding my claim, the completely ignored this key piece of evidence. My claim for 100% IU was denied.

I've had to hire a lawyer to file an appeal. I'll win my appeal but I'll lose 20% of the back pay because the DAV failed to do as they promised.

I wrote a letter to the National Office complaining about my local NSO. Guess what? They never responded either. All I got from them was another letter soliciting donations.

I can't stand the DAV. Their paid service officers, at least all the ones I've ever had to deal with, treated me like I was scum of the earth. They were lazy, rude and incompetent.

I've revoked my power of attorney with them. I've given it to my attorney. I know he'll work hard for me. He doesn't get paid unless he wins.

If you're interested in reading my battle against the VA, go to www.onewearysoldier.blogspot.com. That's a fight.

VFJ is actively working to get
free, licensed lawyers and
a new legal plan for Veterans
to replace the bungled bally-hoos
of the VSO's.

Today's legal arena and today's
Veterans issues are too advanced
and complex to be handled by
"other medical patients" who
only attended a "course".

We need heavy hitters in this
system, and VFW is working
in that direction.

I have backed the DAV with money, A life time member etc. After seeing that they are all mouth and no action, I'm no longer a member, same with the american legion VFW, the viet nam veterans of america are the only ones that did what they said they was going to do, hense they are the only org. that I still belong to.

Hi Being
This is almost a laughable question, but the situation is far beyond laughable.

D on't
A ssume
V eteran

I went through the same thing being; I even went down to the regional office and comfronted the service officer. I went into his office sat at desk; asked some questions, and when he told me there was nothin he could do.

I lost it, I stood up, I looked him in his eyes, and said, "YOUR NOT DOING YOUR FKG JOB!!!!."

I stormed out, and by passed them all together; I did all the paper work myself.

I know the kind of scum the DAV is I dealt with them for 12 years and did not one thing to help me or my claim. Except to interfere with my claim and Kiss the VA A..? What you need to do is learn about the rules and regulations of the VA and start fighting yourself. You did the right thing
