| General James Terry Scott enters our Hall Of Salutes for his service and leadership on the Veterans Disability Benefits Commission. General Scott is a Veterans Veteran, if ya know what I mean. If there was ever a question about how somebody could become both an officer and a gentleman, Terry has it all locked up in one big package. He is the former Army Commander for Special Forces. He is the former Director of National Security at Harvard College. He is the former Chairman of the VDBC who had to lead 12 other Veterans to a unanimous consensus as well as can be expected regarding the all new direction of the future for the federal VA agency. If Terry has any flaws at all, it is being too nice and polite at times, for audiences who never deserved it. There was a considerable lag of time before the realities of the VA crisis actually took over the sensibilities of this commission before they got to a point of openly expressing their own voice of outrage. The VDBC was their reality check that not everyone in civilian life is playing by the same rules as career Army. General Scott took a lot from his chair on the VDBC; he was lied to by both the VA and DOD at times, then the newsmedia ambushed him on things he should have known but didn't. And then if that wasn't enough, an entire batallion of Illiterate and incompetent Veterans spread rumors all over the internet that they were out to rob and loot Veterans while protecting the VA. It all came unravelled and not a minute too soon either, for those of us who sat in the room month in, and month out and end running his defenses. Even now, the VSO's can't keep a story straight and to hear some of them talk, they were all there when the truth is, not many of them at all were EVER there. General Scott was thrown into a position, not being a doctor himself, to try and untangle and comprehend the inner workings of the VA disability rating system. He did well with this. He drummed up budget money support so they could hire the Institute of Medicine and the Center for Naval Analysis to do the more complicated studies, investigations, and surveys and then had them report back to the Commission in ways that a medical layperson could understand. No small task for sure, and who among you would have thought of such a more brilliant solution to what he was faced with? General Scott is one of the smartest men I know, either in Texas or Washington. He knows how to phrase the interests of Veterans into the Eye Of The Tiger with the relentless Buffoon squads which occupies congressional committees. The final VDBC report to Congress, stunned all of his enemies, and was hailed to the very last minute by those of us who supported him. In the last and final seconds of the commission itself closing the doors on their own existance, we all stood up and applauded General Scott for a full 10 minutes after a heartwarming speech by co-Commissioner Don Cassiday. Friends and Activists that we were, nobody sat in their chairs for this one, because to deny Terry is to deny truth itself. He is a great guy and every Veterans friend. He wants to be remembered as the guy who TRIED to make a difference in PTSD recovery. As the final VDBC report to Congress continues to pass through review hearings, one after another the committees are adopting their VDBC findings. So how can this at all be a bad thing ?? To General James Terry Scott, a great guy, and somebody who is truly one of US !!! A Vets For Justice salute goes out to Terry, and we play the Battle Hymn of The Republic in his honor. see his photo below |
