The Associated Press and its
related member newspapers have always used formula stories to depict news stories of active duty troops and Veterans, and it's our goal to change that whole idea and rock their world on that point. Formula stories have only served our national imaging in the military context in a very limited way, and it is the root cause of why the public has such a skewed and less than accurate familiarization with the REAL issues which lurks in our community. The ICON war hero idea has really taken a beating in the duration of Iraq. This is inner urban warfare within a tight civilian population which cannot allow regular U.S. military tactics when held in comparison to Vietnam where it's an all out field chase. This severely limits the Valor opportunities that goes with such a scenario, and the combat medals are fewer, because the risks are greater when trying to close down an insurgent force amidst another crowd of civilians - almost all the time. AP has also sought to lock out post service Veterans who are seeking to OUT the VA and it's cronies with it's vast underworld of corruption. In other words, the news media has attempted to trap all of us as Troops-In-A-Box or Vets-In-A-Box, and in the final scheme of things, the entire idea falls apart. Military types are wanting for much more mainstream news that really interests them, while the public imaging we get is not exactly representative of the 26 million of us who have come and gone through the duty system. This is a situation further fueled by Parrot-Head Veterans themselves, who are of the mistaken idea that we are still living in the 1940's and that honor and bravado worship is the only thing to focus on when speaking on or depicting news releases on Vet or Troop cases. It's time to get REAL boys, and know that we live in a different world now, and it is no longer fashionable in our community to blanketly say that bravado worship is appropriate in every single case. Our enemies at the VA and Congress, after all, ARE "other Veterans" as is our Republican President who fights us tooth and nail on every little budget allocation. The recent deluge of bad press stemming from Troop or Vet criminal types, the murders and what not, has left the Associated Press without a clear sense of direction on how to depict us military types, outside of murderers in waiting, ready to pop out of nowhere to do the most horrific crimes imagineable. Associated Press and it's membership really does have to start focusing on what WE ourselves have said all along in this journey through war: It's the Recruiting, Stupid! The Department of Defense is no longer pulling from the former Boy Scout crowd who grew up to be a man and took their survivor skills to the next level. It is homeless shelter bums, former juvenile group homes, drug rehab facilities, Special Education high school classes, and young people already in a downward spiral looking to the Armed Forces to rescue them in spite of it all. Moral Waivers has opened a new door in military recruiting which we strongly OBJECT to, and it endangers the lives of everyone around them whenever even ONE is allowed to get past the recruiting standards at the front door. Surprisingly, there has not been a LOT of backlash crimes stemming from Gays In The Military, or at least, not as much as first feared when it was forced onto everyone by Bill Clinton back in the 90's. No, what we are seeing coming out of the mudholes of nuts are the age old family member crimes, domestic crimes, and boyfriend/girlfriend issues resembling the very same carryover that we so typically see coming out of local neighborhoods in the civilian world. There are those who have tried to excuse this away on PTSD, but as I have exposed in the other chat blogs posted in this FORUM, this is not even true either. No, we are seeing horrific crimes coming from people who have never been to a war zone. [b]So there ya have it !![/] The Associated Press absolutely DOES need to point it's investigate report guns right into the crosshairs of the Armed Forces Recruiting Command. That is IT in a nutshell, and there aren't many more ways to elaborate on that point. Military Recruiting has suffered a massive MELTDOWN and it's time that the AP starts getting on their backs with investigative reports. They have single handedly created an environment where women troops in particular, are deceived into enlisting, and then are unknowingly subjected to an environment of danger that works to defeat their own sensibilities about self-protection. Furthermore, the Recruiting Command is not under any mandate whatsoever to NOTIFY or INFORM them that they are about to enter one of the most unsafe environments for women known to mankind --- not because it has always been that way, but because it is more than ever slipping down the slope of anybody who has a beating heart is allowed through the doors of military recruiting offices. In past war periods, the DRAFT has also contributed largely to the Muck Crowd who are high risk, unstable, and not exactly meeting the standards of what a D.I. would want to start with in shaping the soldier of the future. But in todays world, we are seeing women undesireables as well as the men, and this with no Draft in place. That speaks volumes and points to the Recruiting Command itself. Whatever is going on in todays military recruiting, is something we have never seen before. War crimes always do happen, and this is an unpreventable fact of life. It is collateral damage to the combat scenario itself. You've got people with DAYS of no sleep, sometimes bad food, heat or cold temps, you name it and they are all sitting on high powered kill rifles and mass destruction equipment so there are no surprises there that such an environment would yield the occassional war crimes story. But this is NOT what the news is generating these days. The military recruiting command is digging from a pile of undesireables who are all by themselves, single-handedly sabotaging the public image and honor standards of the U.S. military itself, and all the other millions upon millions of those who measure up and are in it because they belong there. Military Generals in the future, will absolutely have to face the reality that high risk populations are NOT a viable recruiting source, and what they bring in with mental baggage alone can disrupt an entire base if it all goes to Hell in a handbasket before just one Pop Goes The Weasel shows himself before even getting to a war zone. Associated Press is called upon to begin taking on the Military Recruiting Command for their failures, weaknesses, and even subversive attempts to sabotage the entire concept of military service and all that it holds, with their nonsense to nowhere with pulling from the least desireable venues possible to gleen body counts to advance their own personal records and bonuses, and to supply a war requiring top notch and stellar professional types, instead, with psychopaths on the verge of snapping, and overtly high risk types who will not last 60 days beyond boot camp without a crime incident in tow.
