I am just curious as to how many other veterans out there are experiencing difficulty in getting a federal job. I am 40% disabled and am at present on over 33 referral lists. I have been on in excess of this number many times in the last 6 months I have been trying to get federal employment.
My complaints are :
1. The 5-10 point preference system is a sham. The hiring official has no obligation, or penalty, for not hiring us and generally turns to people already in the system.
2. Under the present law agencies "may" refer as a VRA. In most cases, at least in mine, they don't.
I propose we treat disabled veterans as a disadvantaged group similar to women and minorities and thereby force the agencies to be accountable.

Is it only me or are others having the same problems?

Are You Surprised? Halliburton top officials promoted a VP that said "only blacks and poor white trash fight the wars." Welcome to the club of the discriminated veteran.
Buy the way,this vice-president was promoted shortly after terminated all the blacks and veterans that were working for him.
Bobby Jindal, Steve Scalise , David Vitter and Mary Landrieu would not respond. However, Bobby Jindal would not reply, usuing the excuse that he could not respond by e-mail and because the veteran reporting it was using a library computer, the jackal Jindal said it had to be mailed by US Mail and it was impossible by e-mail. Somebody call Ripley.

I am just 10% disabled. I have applied to hundreds of jobs. Frequently, my application is scored 110. From that, I get nothing.

hey guys it could have something to do with your seperation code or reentry code on your DD-214, this has had an effect on me geeting employment period.

I am a 40% disabled USMC retired veteran. I have been fiercely looking for a Federal Job since my retirement - I was a (Firearms and Non-Lethal) Instructor for USMC. I was responsible for training and certifying personnel and training- trainers in armed and unarmed self-defense with the Monadnock Expandable Baton, force continuum, riot control, management of aggressive behavior, vehicle and personnel searches in support of Homeland Security. I have applied to over 20 jobs in Glynco, GA under Dept of Homeland Security for an Instructor position - One agency says I qualify as a GS-13, but another says I don't qualify as an GS-11 - for basically the same position but with different agencies. I have also applied for a GS-5 Security Guard at one installation and was told I did not meet the minimum qualifications. Now, using the same resume bank - I applied for a GS-07 Supervisory Security Guard and I was told I qualified.

I have even spoken to a VA representative with the DOL and was told that "If an agency wants to hire you, they will. If they don't, they won't". What kind of mess is that? Where is the support - the fight?!

You hit the nail on the head! I also have used my 10 point prefrence only to find the jobs are filled by employees within the government agency. The point preference sounds good on paper but that is about it.
