For those who bothered to attend
the Boston session of the Veterans Disability Commission on August 3, there was little mystery about why Veterans in New England are receiving nothing in the line of Justice while an entire mountain of Vet non-profits and dysfunctional VSO's all stand around with their hands in their pockets whistling "Dixie" !! For those of us die-hards who crawl to the Commission sessions if we have to on our hands and knees, the Boston Town Hall was a carefully rigged and staged event, not even holding a candle to the scrutiny that is so typically in the air at the full-member sessions held monthly in Washington. This was not even in the same league so please do not confuse the 2. What happened in Boston was a travesty to all Public Comment periods everywhere and should never be allowed to happen again. The fact that Boston was not only home to the lead Commissioner Navy Commander Dennis McGinn, but is also home to Chairman Terry Scott as Director of National Security at Harvard College was perhaps the most obvious reason for the scripted and orchestrated "show", because once Dennis McGinn opened the session with such absurd and ridiculous remarks as "....veterans for the most part, are happy with the VA Comp & Pen system....", then every VSO who took the microphone after that, also Parrot- Headed this same phrasing with little deviation from the McGinn script. Starting with George Gerdon of the American Legion, I was frankly flabbergasted at the bungling and inexperience of his short, vague, statement to nowhere which amounted to: "....We are opposed to all changes to the Comp & Pen system that limits or restricts entitlements or reduces benefits to the Veterans..... we only support those changes which improve the system.... This is the voice of the entire New England American Legion, and to have it bungled on such a scale as this was a stunning development and here lies the problem all along with VSO's and their self-absorbed laziness. They are of the idea that they are under no obligation to work hard and keep up with high-literacy action or to be informed on the latest trends and developments effecting the outcome of VA deception, perpetration, and ploys which are often disguised, masqueraded, charaded, and a needle in the haystack when it comes to delivery of services and benefits to Veterans. They were so preoccupied with CYA to make sure that their own VSO's continue to run as business as usual, that in the end, no issue of controversy or confrontation was raised in the faces of this Commission authority. A golden opportunity to make significant change was effectively squandered. The Commission, does NOT fill in the blanks on behalf of Veterans with this broad and sweeping brush of a vague interpretation of American Legion's lame and sorry request which is sure to yield nothingness, as sure as I am sitting at this keyboard. With an entire truckload of available flaws and inadequacies of today's existing Comp & Pen statute under 38 CFR Parts 3 & 4, the American Legion could not submit NOT ONE! single effective, specific legislative request to this authority group that would make life better for those half million Veterans who have been trapped for entire lifetimes at the bungling and incompetent hands of the VSO's. My My What a group!! Nobody can accuse the American Legion of being on top of things now can we? And who, exactly, wants to leave it in the hands of either the Commission or the VA, to let THEM interpret what is or what is not an "....improvement..." to the existing system?? Consider the new Veterans attorney law which does nothing but rob poor Veterans blind to pay large full legal fees to attorneys who are already driving a Lexus around for cars, and are sitting in posh office addresses, while the phoney and baloney Congressmen and Senators who are behind the new law, are all touting it as the next big rescue for sick and ailing Veterans!!! Yeah Right, American Legion! This truly does sound like the kind of environment where we will just leave it in the hands of official Washington to sort out what is and what is not an "impvrovement" to the VA Comp & Pen system. I can just hear the dead Veterans rolling over in their graves as they shout damnations to the American Legion from sea to shining sea. Yes, American Legion does not get it and they really do need to go home and find something else to do! 5 minutes in Boston has convinced me of it. To add insult to injury, and this is about the part where I was getting ready to get up and walk out of the session.... 4 state offices of the Vietnam Veterans of America got up to the microphone and Parrot-Headed the American Legion. Fools leading other fools is how it all went down. Not a single brain was found to be among them. VVA-New York, VVA-Connecticut, VVA-Rhode Island, and VVA-Massachusettes all lined up and entered into the record that they opposed any changes to the existing Comp & Pen System unless it "improved" the system. The compelling question here is this --- Have you ever seen a time when the VA did not try to cut back budgets to the point of turning Veterans away from the Hospitals, and STILL have them try and argue in our faces that it was an "IMPROVEMENT" to our system??? Give me a freaking BREAK !!!! At what point does the American Legion and VVA grow a brain, does anyone really know ?? Yes it was a true Kiss-Fest for the VA and it's puppet commission at Boston, as the ball-less and the empty heads from Shangri-La took their place in history as sealing the fate of DOOM for all Veterans over the next few decades until the next reviewing Commission is appointed into place. Does the words SELL OUT mean anything to you ?? Sue Frasier, VEV 1970 Army Signal Corps national activist/protester staff Blogger, VFJ |
