From time to time I do go back to
VSO's just to see if they have done anything to improve the clumsies of their situations and to see if something has changed enough to where I can actually use them without risking and sacrificing the quality of my pursuits. Just recently, one such meeting was done, and I was handed the entire structure of the American Legion in Washington DC, touted as their HQ main office. After all that, it has now taken me 3 full days in email exchanges with them just to get a simple answer to a handful of questions to them. The American Legion has become a shadow-bureacracy of sorts to the VA itself. You should consider this before you either member them or donate money for the purpose of claims assistance. Donating money for their other causes may still be okay. What goes along with shadow-bureacracies also includes the stunts, charades, bungling, DUH! Factor, handing off to another to another to another to another to another (Yawn!) which so typically goes with the VA itself. So all should consider this when contemplating memberships and donations. Here is the structure of their DC offices and YOU decide: Receptionist Administrative Services (8 positions) Economic (2 positions) Legislative (5 positions) National Security-Foreign Relations (4 positions) Media Relations (2 positions) Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation (8 positions) Field Service (3 positions) Review and Correction Boards (3 positions) Board of Veterans Appeals (5 positions) Regional Office (4 positions) Philadelphia Insurance Office (2 positions) St. Paul Debt Management Office (2 positions) Walter Reed Program (1 position) Pentagon Public Evaluation Board (1 position) Well, you get the idea. Yes instead of doing all of your walls of silence, hoop-jumping, rat-chasing, excuse-factory, and misreading of prominent documents such as Commission Reports at the VA agency, Why Bother --- you can just cut out the middle man and go directly to the American Legion !! The VSO's have become a new problem to Veterans and is no longer the solution. With no real QUALIFICATIONS imposed on hiring practices ( not that there is at the VA either ), and with no Oversight destination to measure out the Quality of what they are cranking out to sick and incapacitated Veterans everywhere, there is nothing but RUMOR and their own FAKE publicity via a slick looking magazine for the public to rely upon as their own internal SPIN on what is or is not happening inside their arena. Few people know, for instance, that Veterans are REJECTED for assistance at times --- as the Fort McClellan Veterans were in their pursuit for equal access to VA recognition as chemical exposure medical patients. If you have all been under the misquided "assumption" they were helping and assisting every single Veterans case and every single Veterans class of patients, then NEWS FLASH! it isn't so. It seems that the VSO's are real big on helping men Veterans and haven't really done SQUAT for us girls. Whether or not the Legion wakes up from it's bureacratic COMA in this next effort I'm making to get them on board in a new functional project remains to be seen. But for sure, we are nearing a time where we just aren't going to take it anymore and to start filing papers to have them blocked from certain venues for discriminatory practices if it all doesn't change. I have never met a Veteran who has asked for and demanded that a new layer of excuses, wall of silence, and hoop-jumping be inserted in the middle of all that already exists at the VA. Frankly, I have just never come across that out here ---- have YOU ?? Sue Frasier, VEV 1970 Army Signal Corps national activist/protester staff Blogger, VFJ |
