This makes the case once again that
military retirees are social misfits and should NOT be running the VA or any other government agency. Dec 16, 7:20 PM EST Veteran administrator picked to lead LA schools LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The board of the Los Angeles Unified School District has chosen a veteran education administrator as its next superintendent. Ramon Cortines (kor-TEE'-nez) will take over the nation's second-largest school district on Jan. 1 under a three-year contract. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger praised the choice of Cortines immediately after Tuesday's vote and expressed confidence in him. Cortines is currently senior deputy superintendent. He will replace David L. Brewer III, a retired Navy admiral whose critics call him an ineffective figurehead. The board last week bought out Brewer's contract for about $500,000. The 76-year-old Cortines was previously interim superintendent of the 700,000-student Los Angeles district in 2000 and also led school districts in New York and San Francisco. _______________________________________ End of Associated Press Release Sue Frasier, VEV 1970 Army Signal Corps national activist/protester staff Blogger, VFJ |
